After the presentation of our new Transducer Position Adjuster


Many questions began to arrive at our company. Well, of course the main one, for which you actually need a device. There were also many reviews from skeptics who said that modern equipment will cope on its own and does not need anything superfluous. Many stated that it is enough to expose the sensor once, as an extension of the boat bottom. Рис 1


Others talked about the need to set the sensor at a speed of 10 km per hour, others talked about 5 km per hour. And supposedly the sensor will show everything perfectly. Of course, we respect any opinion and actually everything that we do, we do for you. Therefore, in this review, we would like to clarify a little what is the benefit, in our opinion, of using the STRONGER Transducer Position Adjuster. Well, you, our dear customers and partners, will try to hear us and figure out with us how useful this device is. We will try to explain what is needed using the example of pictures. This will make it easier to understand the situation.

And so, let’s go….

Each of us purchasing an echo sounder strives to see the picture of the bottom and fish as clearly as possible. Echolocation equipment manufacturers also do not stand still. The price of the equipment grows in proportion to the technology and the number of beams in the device … But let’s get back to the physics of the process and understand what we need besides a good echo sounder to display an ideal picture on the echo sounder. And so is the basics of how an echo sounder works. It sends out a sound wave at regular intervals. The wave, reflected from the object, returns back to the transducer. That is, objects that are able to reflect the wave and send it back in essence and make it possible for the echo sounder to determine the presence of fish, draw the structure of the bottom of the reservoir, determine the depth of the reservoir, the distance to objects, and so on.

And so let’s consider, as an example, what will happen in the course of the boat, in the case when the sensor is installed, as in Рис 1.


As we can see, in this case, not only will the sensor significantly slow down the boat on the move, moreover, the information that it will transmit will be incorrect.


In this case, the beam from the transducer will be directed forward, therefore, on the echo sounder screen we will see such a fish symbol. Let’s figure out how correct the depth of the reservoir will be displayed in this case? Of course, this will not be correct data, and the deeper the reservoir is, the more the beam will be deflected to the side, therefore, the error will increase. And so the skeptics will say, okay fish, we experts do not look at fish at all. We need the bottom topography, and for this, in addition to the main beams in the echo sounder, there are two beams on the sides that scan the bottom, and in this case, this process does not affect this data in any way. But here, too, not everything is so simple, the side beams that are sent in this case will also not be able to ideally reflect from the bottom, since the angle of reflection will also be directed forward of the boat and, in fact, we will see a not quite clear signal.


Many will say, well, the beam is displayed not in a narrow direction, but in a wide strip. And they will be completely right. Yes, this is true, but we are pursuing the goal of collecting the most accurate information, therefore, the information received from the center of the signal cone will be the most accurate and, accordingly, the displacement to the edges of the cone will also provide us with information, but with distortions. Next, let’s consider the option when the transducer is set at a certain speed, be it 10 km per hour, or 5 km per hour. Indeed, it will be possible to achieve as good a picture as possible in the course of the boat and manually select the required angle of inclination of the transducer by long calculations, but what in this case will we have if we reduce the speed of the boat?


On the echo sounder screen, we will see such fish symbols. This means that the sensor is lifted up. Of course, this picture cannot perfectly convey the situation. But I think that its essence is clear to almost any fisherman. Then what happens to the signal wave in this case?


As we can see, the signal will also continue to be reflected along the specified path. Of course, similar to the option above, we also get an unclear picture, since the signal will be similarly received not in the center of the reflected cone, but from the side, as in the option above … So what do we need in order for the signal to be as clear and high quality as possible? It’s simple. We need the transducer to be clearly parallel to the water surface. For this, in fact, we invented the Transducer Position Regulator. Let’s figure out what in this case we can get …


First of all, at speed, we get a sensor perfectly aligned, parallel to the water surface. In this case, it will not brake the boat, since the boat will not lean on it, as in Рис 1. Next, we get the following …


These are clear symbols of fish. By which we can even determine in essence what kind of fish it is. The shape of the arcs will tell us this, and experienced fishermen, practically in one day of fishing, will already identify predatory and peaceful fish by symbols. Next, we get a clear signal that will be sent by the transducer and the received echo signal.


Next, a very important point is to raise the transducer out of the water when necessary. Each of you has come across the fact that when the boat moves, on the surface of the water you can meet accumulations of algae, all kinds of logs, sticks and other debris, and in the spring, in addition to everything, pieces of ice. All of this can ultimately damage our transducer. It is also important to lift the sensor up when placing the boat on the carriage. Or when approaching the shore.


In this article, we have tried to explain to you with accessible examples and pictures why, in our opinion, the regulator of the transducer position is actually needed. A regulator panel is now available for sale, which allows you to manually adjust the required angle of inclination of the transducer, as well as, after adjustment, enter this information into the non-volatile memory.


As we already wrote earlier, in the near future another version of the panel and the regulator control unit will be released, with the help of which the whole process of adjusting the correct position will be performed completely automatically.
