There was also a lot of feedback from skeptics who said that modern equipment can handle itself and it does not need anything extra. Of course we respect any opinion and actually everything we do, we do for you. Therefore, in this review we would like to clarify a little bit what the benefits are. Each of us buying an echo sounder strives to see the picture of the bottom and fish as clearly as possible. Manufacturers of echolocation equipment also do not stand still. The price of equipment grows in proportion to the technology and the number of beams in the device … But let’s still return to the physics of the process and understand what we need in addition to a good echo sounder to display an ideal picture on the echo sounder. And so the basics of how an echo sounder works. It sends a sound wave with a certain periodicity. The wave, reflected from the object returns back to the transducer. And so let’s consider, as an example, what will happen in the course of the boat, in the case when the sensor is installed as in Fig. 1.
As we can see, in this case, not only will the sensor significantly slow down the boat on the move, moreover, the information that it will transmit will be incorrect.
The beam from the transducer in this case will be directed forward, therefore, on the echo sounder screen we will see such a fish symbol. Let’s understand how much correct depth of the water body will be displayed in this case? Of course it will not be correct data. And the deeper the reservoir will be, the more the beam will be deflected to the side, therefore, the error will increase. And so skeptics will say, well, okay fish, we experts on fish do not look at all. We need the relief of the bottom and for this we have in the echo sounder in addition to the main beams, there are two beams on the sides, which scan the bottom and in this case, this process does not affect these data. But here is not all so simple, the side beams that are sent in this case also can not be perfectly reflected from the bottom. Since the angle of reflection will be directed forward of the boat and in fact we will see not quite a clear signal.
Many will say, well, the beam is displayed not in a narrow direction, but in a wide strip. And they will be completely right. Yes, this is true, but we are pursuing the goal of collecting the most accurate information, therefore, the information received from the center of the signal cone will be the most accurate and, accordingly, the displacement to the edges of the cone will also provide us with information, but with distortions. Next, let’s consider the option when the transducer is set at a certain speed, be it 10 km per hour, or 5 km per hour. Indeed, it will be possible to achieve as good a picture as possible in the course of the boat and manually select the required angle of inclination of the transducer by long calculations, but what in this case will we have if we reduce the speed of the boat?
On the echo sounder screen, we will see such fish symbols. This means that the sensor is lifted up. Of course, this picture cannot perfectly convey the situation. But I think that its essence is clear to almost any fisherman. Then what happens to the signal wave in this case?
As we can see, the signal will also continue to be reflected along the specified path. Of course, similar to the option above, we also get an unclear picture, since the signal will be similarly received not in the center of the reflected cone, but from the side, as in the option above … So what do we need in order for the signal to be as clear and high quality as possible? It’s simple. We need the transducer to be clearly parallel to the water surface. For this, in fact, we invented the Transducer Position Regulator. Let’s figure out what in this case we can get …
