ECHO SOUNDER – MAKE IT TRANSMIT ONLY ACCURATE INFORMATION!
An echo sounder is a product that allows us to navigate and improve the quality of our fishing.
After the presentation of our new device, the Sonar Transducer Position Controller.
In this article we will look at how to properly install an echo sounder sensor on a boat: tips and tricks. And let’s touch on the topic of automatic regulators from the STRONGER company. https://strongermarine.com/en/kak-ustanovyt-datchyk-%d1%8dholota/
We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the automatic version of the echo sounder sensor regulator: https://strongermarine.com/ru/products/blok-avtomatycheskoj-regulyrovky-ugla-goryzonta-dlya-regulyatora-%d1%8dholota-pro/
ECHO SOUNDER AND ITS PURPOSE
Our company began to receive many questions. Well, of course, the main one is what the device is actually needed for. There were also a lot of reviews from skeptics who said that modern equipment can handle it on its own and doesn’t need anything extra. Many stated that it is enough to position the sensor once, as an extension of the bottom of the boat. Fig 1
Others said that it was necessary to set the sensor at a speed of 10 km per hour, others said about 5 km per hour. And supposedly the sensor will show everything perfectly. Of course, we respect any opinion and, in fact, everything we do, we do for you. Therefore, in this review we would like to clarify a little what the benefits are. In our opinion, from using the Sonar Transducer Position Controller from STRONGER. Well, you, our dear clients and partners, will try to hear us and figure out with us how useful this device is. We will try to explain what is needed using pictures as an example. This will make it easier to understand the situation. https://strongermarine.com/regulyator-polozhenyya-transdyusera-eholota/
ECHO SOUNDER DEVICE AND ITS OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Each of us, when purchasing an echo sounder, strives to see the picture of the bottom and fish as clearly as possible. Manufacturers of echolocation equipment are also not standing still. The price of equipment grows in proportion to technology and the number of rays in the device… But let’s still return to the physics of the process and understand what we need in addition to a good echo sounder to display the ideal picture on the echo sounder. And this is the basis of how an echo sounder works. It sends out a sound wave at certain intervals. https://strongermarine.com/transdyuser-eholota/
The wave, reflected from the object, returns back to the transducer. That is, objects that are capable of reflecting a wave and sending it back, essentially, and allowing the echo sounder to determine the presence of fish, draw the structure of the bottom of the reservoir, determine the depth of the reservoir, the distance to objects, and so on. https://strongermarine.com/derzhatel-eholota/
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE ECHO SOUNDER SENSOR IF IT IS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY?
And so let’s look at, as an example, what will happen while the boat is moving, in the case when the sensor is installed, as in Fig. 1.
As we see, in this case, not only will the echo sounder sensor significantly slow down the boat while underway, but the information it will transmit will be incorrect. https://strongermarine.com/princzip-raboty-eholota/
1. SENSOR TILTED FORWARD
In this case, the beam from the transducer will be directed forward, therefore, on the echo sounder screen we will see this fish symbol. Let’s figure out how correctly the depth of the reservoir will be displayed in this case? Of course this will not be correct data. And the deeper the reservoir, the more the beam will deviate to the side, therefore, the error will increase. And so the skeptics will say, well, okay fish, we specialists don’t look at fish at all. We need the bottom topography and for this, in our echo sounder, in addition to the main rays, there are two rays on the sides that scan the bottom and in this case this process does not affect this data in any way. But here, too, not everything is so simple; the side rays that are sent in this case will also not be able to reflect perfectly from the bottom. Since the angle of reflection will also be directed forward of the boat and, in fact, we will see a not entirely clear signal.
1.1 WHY IS THE MOST ACCURATE ECHO SOUNDER INFORMATION ONLY WHEN THE SENSOR HORIZON ANGLE IS CORRECT?
Many will say, well, the beam is not displayed in a narrow direction, but in a wide stripe. And they will be completely right. Yes, this is true, but our goal is to collect the most accurate information. Consequently, the information received from the center of the signal cone will be the most accurate and, accordingly, a shift to the edges of the cone will also provide us with information, but with distortions. The echo sounder is capable of transmitting only accurate information without distortion!
Next, let’s consider the option when the echo sounder transducer is set at a certain speed, be it 10 km per hour or 5 km per hour. Indeed, it will be possible to achieve a possibly good picture while the boat is moving and manually select the required angle of inclination of the transducer through long calculations, but what will we have in this case if we slow down the speed of the boat?
2. TRANSDUCER TILTED BACKWARDS
On the echo sounder screen we will see these fish symbols. This means that the sensor is raised up. Of course, this picture cannot perfectly convey the situation. But I think that its essence is clear to almost any fisherman. Then what will happen to the signal wave in this case?
As we see, the signal will also continue to be reflected along the given path. Of course, similar to the option above, we will also not get a clear picture, since the signal will similarly be received not in the center of the reflected cone, but from the side, as in the option above… https://strongermarine.com/transdyuser-dlya-eholota/
The echo sounder needs to be forced to display only the correct information! https://strongermarine.com/kak-ustanovit-datchik-eholota/
So what do we need to ensure that the signal is as clear and high-quality as possible?
3. IMPACT ON DEVICE SCREEN READINGS. THE SONAR SENSOR IS POSITIONED CORRECTLY
It’s simple. We need the transducer to stand clearly parallel to the water surface. For this purpose, we actually invented the Transducer Position Regulator. Let’s figure out what we can get in this case… https://strongermarine.com/pravylnaya-ustanovka-datchyka-eholota/
First of all, at speed we will get a perfectly aligned sensor, parallel to the surface of the water. In this case, it will not slow down the boat, since the boat will not lean on it, as in Fig. 1. Next, we get the following…
The echo sounder will transmit accurate information! These are clear symbols of fish. By which we can even determine essentially. What kind of fish is this? The shape of the arcs will tell us this. And experienced fishermen in almost one day of fishing. They will already be able to identify predatory fish and peaceful ones by the symbols. Next we will receive a clear signal. Which will be sent by the transducer and the reflected signal received. https://strongermarine.com/regulyator-transdyusera-eholota-stronger/
Next, a very important point is lifting the transducer out of the water when necessary. Each of you has encountered this. That when the boat moves, accumulations of algae may occur on the surface of the water. All kinds of logs, sticks and other debris. And in the spring, in addition to everything, there are pieces of ice. All this can ultimately cause damage to our transducer. It is also important to lift the echo sounder sensor up when placing the boat on the carriage. Or when approaching the shore. https://stronger.in.ua/
In this article we have tried to provide accessible examples and pictures. Explain to you why it is actually necessary. In our opinion, the position regulator of the echo sounder transducer. This equipment has already been sold by our company.
